Important cased Colt Model 1862 Police percussion revolver serial number 4386

manufactured circa 1862 with a 4 1/2 inch barrel. The gun is blue with case coloured frame, loading lever and hammer. The overall condition is excellent.


According to the Colt historical letter that accompanies the gun it was part of Colt's archive collection and "was acquired by Colt for inclusion in a proposed company museum. Although a formal museum was never established, the arms in this collection have been stored in the Engineering Archive vault and have been available to the Custom Shop, Engineering and Historical Department for reference purposes. Additionally, subject revolver was utilized for a period of time as a display piece in the office of the President.


The Historuical letter dated May 14th, 1996 states that serial number 4386 was in .36 caliber, barrel lenrth 4 1/2 inches, finished in blue / case hardened and the type of stocks were wood. It also adds that it was in a presentation case with bullet mold, nipple wrench, and cap tin.


This is an important and rare set which would be prominent part of an advanced collectors collection or worthy of inclusion in a museum featuring a fine Colt collection.
